Kickin’ Ass on Light Street
May 10th, 2007 by Lisa
I was late for work this morning. I almost got my ass kicked by a bunch of street thugs this morning. The two incidents are related.
As I was driving to work, I inevitably got stopped at the light in front of the Cross Street Market. While I was stopped, I noticed an unusually large group of high school kids…okay they were street thugs…forming a circle around a girl sitting on the ground. I didn’t pay much attention until I noticed a girl pour an entire bottle of water onto the head of the girl on the ground. I then realized that the entire circle was laughing at the poor girl on the ground. Before I realized it, I had parked the car and jumped out. I heard myself say “Every single one of you get the hell out of here right now! I know your school starts in 20 minutes and I will not hesitate to call the truent officer on your ass.” There may have even been an f-bomb somewhere in there, but I don’t remember. Well, they stared at me for a second wondering who this “crazy white bitch” was. I continued to stare them down and the group eventually sauntered off.
I leaned down and asked the girl if she was okay. She said she had tried to be nice by bringing another girl a coffee from across the street. However, her good gesture was answered with having the coffee poured down her shirt. She then fell and hurt her foot. As she sat down to nurse her sore foot, the other girl poured the bottle of water on her. I sat with her while her mom came to pick her up.
As a rule I don’t mind teenagers, but a pack of them ganging up on a sweet girl pissed me off. I guess it says a lot for the “pack” mentality. It’s amazing what a group of people can persuade themselves to do…things they’d never dream of doing on their own.
So for now my ass has been spared.

I will never, and I mean never, mess with a social worker.
Kudos for kicking ass!! I mean, of course, that you were the one who did the kicking. I’m glad you put those thugs to rout, even as I’m a bit concerned for your safety. The pack mentality is a great mystery when it occurs in a supposedly civilized society. Or maybe it isn’t. This may be a case of arrested development. Or, one must ask if there was ever any potential for development. I’m glad you are safe, and I know that the young girl and her mother appreciate your taking time to come to the girl’s aid. Love, Mimi
