Quick Delivery, Mediocre Masala
May 2nd, 2007 by Cory
Tonight I finally tried Banjara Indian Restaurant (1017 S. Charles St., 410-962-1554). Lisa’s out of town at a conference, so I vowed to eat sushi, Indian, and all the foods she’s not crazy about every night while she’s gone. After working late, I had just about resigned myself to a dinner of hot dogs. I was pleasantly surprised when Banjara answered and downright giddy when they told me they deliver. God forbid I have to haul my prodigious ass a half mile for dinner.
I ordered my standard Indian fare: lamb masala with a side of naan. They told me it would be 45-50 minutes. It was almost 8:00 PM, and I was hungry, but I figured it would be worth the wait.
15 minutes later my doorbell rang. Outside was a guy on a bike holding up a piping hot bag of food. After tearing into the food, I was a bit disappointed to see white rice. I’m used to saffron rice with my Indian food. The lamb was pretty good, tender and tasty. The masala sauce itself a bit bland. It definitely wasn’t the over-the-top spicey masala they serve in Dallas. Not bad mind you, but it certainly didn’t bring tears to my eyes. The naan was naan. A bit thin and gooey maybe, but that was my fault for waiting too long to tear into it. Now, I ate every bite of it mind you, so it certainly wasn’t bad. Just nothing to write home to Roti about.
